Creating alerts in Elements is pretty similar to using the regular overlay editor. However, Elements offers a much modern design as well as some extra features that you might want to take advantage of.
Creating alerts using a pre-designed theme
If you don't want to deep dive into customization and just want to use alerts out of the box you can choose one from our Elements Gallery.
When you find one that you like, click on it to go to the dedicated page for that widget, where you will be able to see a preview of all the different events supported by the alert box.
If you decide to use it, click on the "Use Element" button, and you will get a popup with the widget URL and instructions on how to add it to OBS.
Creating Alerts from Scratch
If you want full control over the assets used on your alerts, you can create an alert box from scratch.
To do this, go to the Elements page and click "New Element" > "Start from Scratch"
You will be taken to the Elements editor, where you will be able to customize each of the events.
On the left side menu, you'll find all the different supported events (you can even add more using the add state button.
By clicking on "Any" you will customize alerts for that specific event. You can also create extra variations if you want, such as special alerts for specific viewers. This applies to all events, you're free to create multiple variations to enhance your viewers' experience.
You can customize the alert on the right side of the screen. You can highlight each component by clicking on it.
Text components have the option of using dynamic data. You can see all the available data by typing / in a component, which will open a menu of different data groups.
We will use the followed event to demonstrate what each component does.
- Text: The secondary text for the follow event
- Title: The name of the latest follower. In this case, Name is dynamically updated to the latest follower.
- Main Asset: The graphic asset you want to show with the alert.
- Sound: The sound file you want for the alert.
This is all you need to create a simple alert box with your own assets. You can go all-in and create a much more rich alert box, with dozens of variations, special effects, and more. We recommend that you play around with it and experiment with all the different options so you can create unique alerts for your viewers to enjoy.
