Purpose: This article explains how to use the Backtrack (Replay Buffer) feature on SE.Live custom canvases, highlighting the differences from native OBS functionality and noting key resource considerations.
Prerequisites:
-
Latest SE.Live version (Build .477 or later)
-
Custom canvas created in SE.Live
What is Backtrack (Replay Buffer)?
Backtrack allows you to save recent moments from your stream retroactively by continuously recording into a temporary buffer. This is perfect for capturing highlights or unexpected moments.
Backtrack Availability
-
On OBS (Native):
The replay buffer can run while streaming or offline.
Available globally, no canvas-specific configuration needed.
-
On SE.Live Canvas:
As of Build .477, available on custom canvases in SE.Live.
Only functions while streaming.
Resource Usage Warning
Backtrack always consumes encoding resources when enabled, even if the canvas is not currently streaming.
Recommendation: Do not use buffers longer than 180 seconds, as extended use can significantly impact system performance.
Only enable Backtrack on canvases where it's truly needed.
How to Enable Backtrack on SE.Live Canvas
-
Enable Backtrack Per Canvas:
Click the canvas settings gear icon.
Enable Backtrack under the specific canvas options.
Save the changes.
-
Start Streaming:
Backtrack will only function while a canvas is actively streaming.
Setting a Hotkey to Save Backtrack Replays
Ensure streaming is active.
Open OBS Hotkey Settings.
Locate the entry:
"Save Replay" under
Canvas Backtrack (Replay Buffer): [CANVAS NAME]Assign your preferred hotkey and save.
ℹ️SE.Live remembers hotkey assignments for each canvas.
⚠️Backtrack will only work while streaming.
⚠️ Enabling backtrack will use encoding power even when idle.
