Are you having issues hearing your alerts? Do your viewers hear them but not you? Is no one able to hear the alerts at all? Don't worry, we got you covered.
Please note that this is a general recommendation. You might need a different solution depending on your audio setup, or you might also want to do this differently if you plan on using different audio tracks for OBS.
How to hear alerts
The first thing you need to check is if your audio device is working for other things, such as Discord, Spotify, or YouTube. Once you've confirmed that the audio device you're using works properly, you can do the following:
- Go to OBS Settings
- Access the Audio tab
- Select your main audio device for the Desktop Audio device
- Select your microphone for the Mic/Auxiliary Audio device
- Accept to save the changes
This simple and quick setup will make it so you and your stream can hear everything that's loaded into OBS as a browser source.
How to change the alerts volume
There are multiple ways to achieve this, we will not go through all of them, just two basic ways of doing it.
-
Lower OBS volume: You can simply lower the OBS app volume and it will lower all sounds coming from OBS, including your alerts
-
Control Alerts volume via OBS:
- Right click the overlay browser source and go into properties
- Enable "Control audio via OBS" and click OK
- You will not be able to control the alerts volume using the audio mixer track
- You can also enable audio monitoring if you're still not hearing them by going to Advanced Audio Properties
- And change the Audio Monitoring option for the Alerts track to "Monitor and Output"
If this didn't work and you're still having audio issues or have more questions regarding audio in OBS, we recommend that you join the OBS Discord, where you can receive help from the OBS community on this and other things related to OBS.
